The Phantom of the Opera is a novel by French writer Gaston Leroux, first published as a serialized work from 1909 to 1910. The story has been adapted into numerous films, television shows, and stage productions, the most famous being Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical.

Synopsis

The novel is set in the Paris Opera House and revolves around a mysterious and disfigured musical genius known as the Phantom, who lives in the catacombs beneath the opera house. The Phantom falls in love with Christine Daaé, a beautiful young soprano. He becomes obsessed with her, using his knowledge of the opera house and his musical talent to further her career while simultaneously terrorizing the opera house’s inhabitants. Christine, torn between her love for her childhood friend Raoul and her fear of the Phantom, becomes the focal point of a tragic love triangle. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Musical (1986): Perhaps the most famous adaptation, this musical has been a long-running hit on Broadway and the West End. It features iconic songs like “The Music of the Night,” “All I Ask of You,” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”
